Hollow Knight Silksong

I'm currently playing Hollow Knight: Silksong on my stream! I'm actually kind of fortunate that I didn't play the original Hollow Knight until kinda late after its release - because that meant that my wait for Silksong wasn't nearly as long as a lot of other people's. But after playing through the original game, I couldn't wait for Silksong - and then, once it released... ... I didn't play it, because I had other stuff going on that too priority. Ah, adult life. But I started playing it on stream recently and I'll share some of my initial thoughts below!

At its core, this feels like vanilla Hollow Knight, just with a different playable character, enemies, and areas to explore - much like the expansion that Silksong was intended to be before it became its own game. That's not a bad thing! Much like Slay the Spire 2, the devs took the concept that already worked, and just... expanded on it. Sometimes you don't need to reinvent the wheel to be successful. Sometimes it's enough to just make incremental improvements and give the people more of what they already like.

The game has actually been (to me) a bit more challenging than the original Hollow Knight was, thus far. I've died quite a few more times, enemies seem to hit harder, and healing is harder to do in general. I also haven't quite mastered Hornet's attack style thus far. Even if I know an enemy's attack patterns, sometimes I have a hard time countering it efficiently. That might speak more to my skill than anything about the game, though. I do like what they've implemented as far as side quests and being able to track them! ... My only other real complaint is that it feels like I MIGHT be getting close to the end of the game. I don't want it to end! But it's been super enjoyable thus far.

3/21/26 update .... So, I wasn't close to the end of the game. I was close to the end of Act 1. I still have more to play! I'm so happy!
